Sara Mahowald
Hi! I’m Sara (she/her).
When I was 13 years old I was diagnosed with moderate scoliosis. My pain was minimal in childhood, but in college my back pain was so bad I couldn’t find a decent sleeping position. In 2015 I found an Iyengar yoga class taught by Robin Thorpe specifically for those who have scoliosis, and I never looked back. The focus on anatomy and structure is what drew me in, and my newfound yoga practice helped me manage my back pain. In 2019 I took yoga teacher training courses with Leslie Bradley and Craig Kurtz, and I continue to attend yoga teacher development classes on a monthly basis with Kelly Moore and Steven Norber. In October of 2022 I received my Level 1 CIYT certification.
I strive to make my yoga classes a safe place and as inclusive and accessible as possible, where judgement is left at the door.
Aside from practicing and teaching yoga, I enjoy hiking, volunteering in the outdoors, and creative pursuits like playing ukulele, mending clothes, and crocheting.
I’m eager to help you understand how yoga and movement can help you.
